Season Five of The CW’s hit show, The Vampire Diaries, is only months away and filming is under way! It returns to TV on Thursday October, 10th at 8:00pm. Season Four ended with the death of Bonnie, the introduction of Silas (Stefan’s doppelgänger), the return of Jeremy, the exit of the Original family, Stefan at the bottom of a quarry, Elena professing her love to Damon and Katherine cured of vampirism. Wow! Needless to say, we’re curious where they’re going to be taking Season Five now that Caroline and Elena will be heading off to Whitmore University. We do have some details about the upcoming season, though, so let’s get right to it.
Five New Characters: We know about five new characters who will be introduced this season. Among them are a possible new love interest for Jeremy named Megan, a college professor who knows a lot about the town of Mystic Falls and a male doctor who Damon has a run in with. Two new characters have already been cast, one being an Eastern European named Nadia (played by Olga Fonda) who crosses paths with Matt and Rebekah in Prague. According to ZAP2it…
“Nadia will be seen as early as Season 5 premiere, and “will ally herself with
anybody — and employ any tactic — to further her own mysterious agenda,”
according to the casting breakdown. “An emotional chameleon, she can flip from
stone-cold to flirtatious as it suits her needs. But the loneliness of her
singular quest has taken its toll on her humanity, and she finds herself
increasingly lost when it comes to genuine human connection.”
The second character that has been cast is Jesse (played by Kendrick Sampson), a charming upperclassman who catches Caroline’s eye. Don’t panic Klaroline and Forwood fans. Jesse has good reason to strongly dislike vampires so a romance may not be in the cards for these two.
Silas: According to executive producer Julie Plec in a TVLine interview, Silas will still be trying to accomplish his goal of curing himself so he can die and find peace. Who knows how long he’ll be able to trick people into thinking he’s Stefan, but he’s sure going to try. Imagine the havoc he could wreak by doing this? Meanwhile, Stefan will be in a box drowning and healing, then drowning and healing, then drowning and… you get the picture. It’s going to be awful.
Delena Love: In light of Elena professing her love for Damon, they’re going to give their relationship a try even with her going off to college. Delena fans can rejoice because apparently, we’ll actually get to see them happy for a while. Key word, “awhile”. He won’t be lonely while she’s at school though, because he has a new roommate. Jeremy! I hope a new bro-mance forms between these two (#Jamon). Damon’s been needing a new buddy ever since Alaric’s tragic exit in Season Three.
What About Bonnie?: We know Bonnie’s dead, but she’s still set to be a season regular (thank goodness). Julie Plec says about Bonnie in her interview with TVLine…
“She fits very much into the scope of the show as she tries to deal with the fact that what she thought maybe wouldn’t be so difficult actually is. The absence of physical touch and physical connection with the boy that she likes, just that alone makes her feel really distant. We’ll get to see her more in her own life a little bit as she tries to figure out ways to keep her secret — [and] also stay on top of her friends and what they’re doing and if they’re safe.”
Hmm… we’re curious to see how all that plays out and when Elena and Caroline will find out what really happened to her.
So, what do you guys think? Are you excited for new characters? What do you think is going to happen with Silas and do you think Katherine will survive the season? What is Nadia’s secret and is she somehow involved with Katherine (she is Eastern European)? What do you think is in store for Tyler and Matt and how do you think they’re going to handle a season regular ghost? Sound off on your thoughts and predictions for Season Five! #FangsOut
