TVD Chicago: Nathaniel Buzolic Panel Recap

Seeing that Kol is such a conniving asshole on the show, I had some pretty twisted expectations for when Nate Buzz did his panel. Let me just say, what an amazing person. I mean really. If he could get any nicer, the guy would be shitting unicorns. It was like everything he said was puking up Lisa Frank murals on the walls. You get the picture. Anyways, one might think it could be pretty difficult to handle a ballroom full of screaming fan-girls while doing a panel solo, but that classy Aussie handled that shit with grace. Talk about setting a high bar for the day! Since we weren’t allowed to take any videos, we wanted to provide you with some of his panel highlights:

Q: What were some of the funniest moments on set?

Nate’s response was quite hilarious. Apparently, during the batting range scene (remember when he was Jeremy’s bestie for a hot minute?) he motioned with the bat to “hit” Damon in the face, and the bat prop snapped in half and went flying towards Ian. Um, did you say that gorgeous face was in jeopardy? Yup, sure did. Thankfully, like his many cats, Ian’s reflexes were baller and he moved out of the way just in time for it to graze a crew member. #phew

Q: If you could play any other character on “The Vampire Diaries,” who would it be?

Nate, of course, said, “no one!”. He’d want to play Kol and Kol only. How very…Kol of him. #intohimself. His redeeming reason of why this is was that, like Kol, he is a loner. *awwwwww* Apparently, he just wants Kol to have some friends. I told him I’d be Kol’s BFFL, but I didn’t get the reaction I was expecting. Maybe it was my fan-girling and projectile vomiting that turned him off that idea.

Q: Will Kol appear at all on the Originals spinoff even though he’s dead?

Nate said he would love to, because he loves working with his on-screen siblings, Joseph Morgan, Daniel Gillies, Claire Holt, and Phoebe Tonkin. Ok, so Phoebe is not a sibling, but he has an obsession with her. Sort of. But seriously, he’s obsessed. Anyways, at this stage there aren’t any Kol-centered flashbacks in the works, but he is urging all the fans to tweet Julie Plec to get the ball rolling!

Q: Is it difficult to hold an English accent?

Nate is Australian for all of you that have been living under a rock for last year. He said that holding an English accent was particularly hard while he was, “drowning” someone. Um, OK…

Q: Who/What inspired you to act?

Leonardo DiCaprio in “Romeo and Juliet” inspired him to act. I saw that movie, too, but it didn’t inspire me to act. Just to blow my weekly allowance at Target on more “Titanic” posters.

Q: Who do you interact best with off screen?

His off-screen besties are Joseph Morgan, Steven R. McQueen and Claire Holt. According to him, Claire has the biggest heart in the world. We aren’t surprised. #lovethatbitch

Q: If you could be frozen at any age, what would it be?

He really didn’t answer this question. All he said was, “It better be soon. It’s not getting any better,” and that he’d want to do it next to Walt Disney. Understandable.

Q: What is the hardest part about your job?

“Nothing! I have a responsibility to do the best with the opportunity I’ve been given. This is not a job, it’s a life experience.” I mean…#classy.

Q: Is it hard to watch yourself on camera?

Nate doesn’t watch himself on camera, and one of the reasons why can be seen in the drowning scene where his accent slips. Again, totally understandable. Him and Joseph Morgan can probably bond over that considering they’ve both “drowned” someone on set. No wonder they’re besties off-screen! Actually, that’s kind of a creepy thing to bond over. Anyways…

Other fun facts Nate chose to let loose:

  • He’s Croatian, and his mother is a refugee from Croatia. His last name is actually a street in the town his family is from.
  • He SERIOUSLY has an obsession with Phoebe Tonkin. Don’t we all?
  • Kol needs friends. Like, bad. If he was resurrected, the first person he’d go find is Phoebe Tonkin’s character.

See what we mean? The guy is a class act. If you want to see why else he rules check out his involvement with End It Movement, an organization focused on ending modern-day slavery. What do you guys think of Nate Buzz in real life? Leave your thoughts! #FangsOut
