The Vampire Diaries: CW Creating The Originals Spinoff

BREAKING NEWS! So, we always tweet that we’d love a Klaus spinoff but NEVER did we think that would actually happen… like ever. According to Entertainment Weekly, there is a spinoff of The Vampire Diaries in the works. It would star Joseph Morgan as Klaus and be centered around the Original Family. Phoebe Tonkin would also appear as werewolf Hayley.

“Executive producer Julie Plec will write an upcoming episode of “The Vampire Diaries” that will set up “The Originals” as a series. Julie Plec will serve as showrunner on the new project if it earns a series order.” The episode is set to air on the CW on April 25, 2013. It could be a full 60 minute show with 13 episodes in the first season. In the first episode, Klaus returns to the French Quarter in New Orleans and joins up with his former protegé, Marcel. The show will also showcase the mystery werewolf who fathered Klaus. We can expect this show to explain the early lives of the Originals in more detail.

“Experience the beauty, the laughter, the tears and the sorrow. Catch a glimpse of a forbidden love between Kol and his beloved witch; Rebekah’s romance with a vampire hunter which was doomed from the beginning; Klaus’ love with a human that could never last; and a love torn away from another two parties with unchangeable consequences to both.  See how both love and loss altered the lives of our Original favorites, and how witches, vampires, werewolves, hunters, humans and ghosts collide in this epic story which leads us on the road to present day Mystic Falls. You will be mesmerised, you will be shocked, you will be addicted.

This is the story they didn’t tell you – the story that will curdle your blood, get under your skin, latch onto your mind and never let you free. This is the story you’ve been wondering about your whole lives, even if you only realised it today.

“The Originals” are not all they seem. Prepare to glimpse them in ways you never thought possible. Betrayal, lust, lies, deceit, murder, panic, terror – but above all, love – follows them around wherever they go. Bound by family, bidden by blood. This is the Originals as you have never seen them before.”  TV AFTER DARK

In this Originals spin off we’ll see Klaus, Rebekah, Finn, Kol, Elijah, Henrik, Esther, Mikael, a character named Aaron (Esther’s first born) and Klaus’ biological father.

Kevin Williamson is not involved with this project. I’m sure he has his hands full with The Following. Leslie Morgenstein and Gina Girolamo will be a part of the spinoff as well. The show is produced by Alloy Entertainment in association with Warner Bros.

How do you guys feel about this and what do you think it means for The Vampire Diaries?

I am interested in what will cause Klaus to leave Mystic Falls. Either the cure will not exist, will be used on someone else in some plot twist, or my personal theory is that all the sacrifices are setting in motion a reversal of Klaus’ werewolf gene. He sacrificed a human, a werewolf, and a vampire to awaken his werewolf side back in season 2. So far, there has been a human sacrifice of 12 with the town council, and a sacrifice of 12 werewolves when the hybrids were killed, and what do you want to bet, 12 vampires have to be killed at the hand of the hunter to complete the mark…If Klaus’ werewolf side is dormant again, he is unable to create hybrids and therefore does not need the “magic blood.” I speculate that somehow he will turn Hayley into a hybrid (as punishment) before this happens…either with Elena or Katherine becoming human long enough to give him more doppelganger blood. Why else would she be on the spin off. She hated Klaus previously.

A spinoff of The Vampire Diaries would be pretty cool to see, so let’s hope that the April episode pays off. A few of my DISH coworkers watch the show, too, so it would give us even more to talk about. With The Vampire Diaries airing on Thursday nights, I’m glad to have a DISH Hopper for my family. We all have a show to watch then, so the ability to watch up to 4 programs at once is a huge plus and it allows us to not have to worry about compromising one of our shows.
